Our Mission
The Graduate African Student Organization (GASO) is founded on the premise that representation makes a pivotal difference in an individual’s academic, professional, and even personal journey. Recognizing the unique challenges of African graduate students at Brown, GASO seeks to represent African voices and perspectives by focusing on the following goals:

-
at the graduate level, to create a close-knit community for African Graduate students and
-
at the undergraduate level, to foster long-lasting mentoring relationships for rising African scholars by leveraging the experiences and resources in the African graduate community at Brown

Taken together, GASO’s formation as a student-led group aims to create an inclusive space and community that provides a ‘feeling of home away from home’ for African graduate students at Brown, while also engaging the broader Brown community on African centered discourse.
